Terms of Service

Welcome to pilcrownote. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of pilcrownote (the "Service"), a minimalist Markdown writing application. By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Using pilcrownote

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. You are responsible for the activity that happens on your account and for keeping your login credentials secure. If you sign in through a third-party provider such as Google, your use of that provider remains subject to its own terms.

2. Your content

You retain full ownership of everything you write in pilcrownote. We do not claim any rights to your notes. You grant us only the limited permission necessary to store, sync, back up, and display your content so that we can provide the Service to you.

You are solely responsible for your content and for ensuring you have the rights to it. Do not use the Service to store or share anything unlawful, infringing, or harmful.

3. Acceptable use

When using pilcrownote, you agree not to:

• Break the law or infringe the rights of others.
• Attempt to disrupt, overload, or reverse-engineer the Service.
• Access another user's account or data without permission.
• Use the Service to distribute malware or spam.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

4. Voice dictation

The Service offers optional voice dictation. When you use this feature, audio is transmitted to our speech-to-text provider solely to transcribe your words. We do not use your voice recordings to train models, and audio is not retained beyond what is needed to return your transcript.

5. Spelling auto-correction

The Service offers optional spelling auto-correction that you can turn on or off at any time. When enabled, it silently fixes common misspellings in words you have finished typing. This feature runs entirely on your device using a built-in dictionary and a curated list of common misspellings — the text of your notes is not sent to any server for correction.

Auto-correction covers spelling only. It does not change grammar, punctuation, style, or capitalization beyond preserving the case of the original word, and it leaves the word you are actively typing untouched. Because it operates automatically, it may occasionally alter an intended spelling, such as an uncommon name or term; you are responsible for reviewing your writing, and you can disable the feature whenever you prefer.

6. Security and compliance

We take reasonable steps to protect your account and your writing.

• Encryption in transit. All communication between your device and the Service is encrypted using TLS (HTTPS).
• Encryption at rest. Your notes and account data are stored on infrastructure that encrypts data at rest using industry-standard AES-256 encryption.
• Password protection. If you create a password, it is stored only as a salted cryptographic hash — never in plain text. When you sign in through a third-party provider such as Google, authentication is handled by that provider.
• Access control. Your notes are protected by per-user access controls enforced at the database level, so that only your authenticated account can read or modify your content.

Our authentication, database, and hosting providers maintain recognized industry certifications such as SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 at the infrastructure level. These certifications apply to the platforms we build on; they are not certifications of pilcrownote itself.

7. Availability and changes

We work to keep pilcrownote available and dependable, but we provide the Service "as is" without warranties of any kind. We may add, change, or remove features at any time. We will make reasonable efforts to notify you of significant changes.

8. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, pilcrownote and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, arising from your use of the Service. We strongly encourage you to keep your own backups of important writing.

9. Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you violate these Terms or if we discontinue the Service.

10. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
